Camnacar Cottage with The Old Dairy (where we live) sits above the peaceful village of Kirkmichael. The grounds of nearly two acres are maintained as an organic forest garden where foods may be freely foraged (please ask for help before doing this!) A wee burn runs through the middle and into the original millpond, which is currently being restored to produce hydro-electric power.
In the village of Kirkmichael the award-winning shop with its petrol pump, post office and cafe, will provide most of your needs, and is happy to take advance orders. Kirkmichael also boasts three hotels. They all have public bars and serve food - lunchtimes and evenings.
The Neighbourhood
The surroundings of Kirkmichael are beautiful - the river Ardle runs through the village (fishing available) and all around are hills, woodland and fields. Many a walk can be enjoyed from the cottage, most famously the historic Cateran trail, whose leaf-shaped loop runs through Kirkmichael.
Pitlochry's many attractions are a 25 minute bus or car journey away, as are those of Blairgowrie. The quiet winding roads make cycling a real pleasure. The famous championship golf course, Rosemount, is not far away, with other excellent courses within easy reach. Skiing and winter sports can be enjoyed at nearby Glenshee.
